LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Northern Colorado scored in seven of the nine innings but fell short against New Mexico State at Presley Askew Field Friday.

The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead before recording the first out of the game. Singles by the first three batters in the lineup plated a run, with the last two on a sacrifice fly and an Aggies' miscue.

Kai Wagner doubled to right center and chased home Jake King, who recorded his two-bagger in the second frame.

Following a four-spot by New Mexico State in the second, UNC added two in each of the next stanzas. Jackson Romero delivered a two-out, two-RBI single in the third. Garrett Fisher deposited the first pitch he saw in the fourth beyond the outfield barrier for a two-run blast.

A pair of walks, a double and a grand slam from the first four batters of the home half of the frame knotted the score at 8-8.

The Bears responded in their next at-bat, capitalizing on a miscue from the Aggies and moved in front by one. New Mexico State grabbed the lead with three in the bottom of the stanza. The Aggies tacked on one more in the sixth and seventh before adding six in the eighth.

Carter Monda and Carson Gross drove in a run each, to close out the scoring for UNC. Monda notched a two-out single in the seventh, while Gross doubled down the right-field line for a two-out RBI in the ninth.
