UNC Opens Omaha Tournament with Two Wins Saturday
OMAHA, Neb. – Northern Colorado opened the Omaha Tournament with a pair of wins Saturday at Connie Clausen Field.

The Bears run-ruled Valparaiso in the opener, recording an 8-0 victory in five innings, before escaping with a 3-2 triumph over Kansas City in extras.

UNC received a balanced offensive attack, with eight Bears recording at least one hit and seven crossing the plate against Valparaiso. They plated three in each of the first two frames, before closing out the contest with a pair in the bottom of the fifth.

Northern Colorado capitalized with three unearned runs in its first at-bats, before a pair of RBI doubles from Abby Gaona and Amailee Morales increased the gap to 5-0. Sabrina Javorsky singled up the middle for another tally.

In the fifth, Emma Harrington walked it off with a two-run homer to center.
Â
Erin Cavines (4-5) tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out 11.

Northern Colorado rallied from two down in the top of the sixth in the night cap. Wenzel slashed the deficit in half with a productive out, before Steinker knotted the score at 2-2 with a knock down the left field line.

Morales crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Javorsky in the eighth and Isabelle DiNapoli finished off a complete game with a scoreless eighth. She surrendered two runs – one earned on one hit, four walks and punching out four.
