Northern Colorado Defeats UC Santa Barbara in Exciting 9 Inning Contest

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Northern Colorado softball showcased its offense in a thrilling 10-8 nine-inning win over California – Santa Barbara on the second day of the UCSB Tournament.
Sophomore Amailee Morales's three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning broke a 7-7 tie. UCSB scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and the Bear's defense shut the door on the comeback.
The UNC offense started fast and put the Bears up early.
In the top of the second inning, senior Alison Steinker singled down the first-base line to push across a run. Freshman Jazzy Longo then hit her first career home run, a three-run shot to left field and the Bears led 4-0.
The Bears added two runs in the third inning. Sophomore Abby Gaona scored on an error and Steinker recorded a sacrifice fly to left field to score a run. UNC added another run in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-0.
UCSB then fought back to tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings.
Isabelle DiNapoli tossed the remaining three innings and earned the win.

In the opener, Michigan defeated UNC 4-1.
Angelique Navarro put the Bears up 1-0 in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Wolverines scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

UNC concludes its time in California on Sunday versus St. John's and the first pitch is set for 10 a.m.
