DiNapolio Shuts Outs Hornets as Bears Split Doubleheader

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore pitcher Isabelle DiNapoli threw a complete-game shutout in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Sacramento State, as the Northern Colorado softball team split with the Hornets on Friday afternoon. UNC dropped the first contest, 5-3, but rebounded for a 3-0 win in the second game.
The win is the fifth of the season for DiNapoli, and her second shutout of the season, but her first seven-inning shutout, as she threw a five-inning shutout against Kansas City on March 11. DiNapoli conceded just five hits, one walk, one hit by pitch, while striking out four Hornet batters.
In the 3-0 win, the Bears scored all three runs in the first inning. Lauren Strathearn scored the first run after Alison Steinker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Carson Fischer followed up with a single to score Alyssa Wenzel, before a wild pitch allowed Emma Morales to score for the third and final run.
During the first game of the day, Sacramento State got on the board first with a solo run in the bottom of the third. The Bears then scored three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, behind a Strathearn base on balls and Wenzel single. Unfortunately, the Hornets would score three runs in the third and one in the sixth for the win.
