SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Colorado softball team lost, 8-2, on Saturday in the series decider with Sacramento State on the road.

Despite a run-away fifth inning, the Bears battled with the Hornets all game. Sac State scored solo runs in the second, third and sixth innings, while UND scored two runs in the top of the sixth.

Alyssa Wenzel recorded her second extra-base hit on the weekend, hitting a triple to right center that scored Jaycie Gandert for the Bears' first run. Amailee Morales then followed up with a single to score Wenzel for the second run.

BY THE NUMBERS

Alyssa Wenzel led the Bears over the weekend with a .400 batting average, recording four hits in 10 at-bats. Wenzel had one double and one triple against the Hornets, recording three RBI.
Amailee Morales batted .375 in the series with Sac State, recording three hits in eight at-bats.
Lead-off hitter Lauren Strathearn had four hits in 11 at-bats (.364) and recorded a .417 on-base percentage.
In the circle, Isabelle DiNapoli pitched a total of 9.0 innings over the weekend, earning six strikeouts and conceding five runs on five hits.
Freshman pitcher Grace Algrim pitched 1.2 innings to close out Saturday, conceding no runs on one hit with one strikeout.

The Bears head to Idaho State for a three-game conference series next weekend. The doubleheader on Friday, April 7, is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. (MT) start, with the closing game on April 8 scheduled to start at noon.
