SEATTLE, Wash. – Northern Colorado delivered some noteworthy performances on both sides of the ball on Friday but it was Washington who notched wins in both games of the doubleheader, 5-0 and 16-6.
GAME 1
The Huskies picked up right where they left off the night prior, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
After the first, however, starting pitcher Dylan Day settled into a bit of a groove, blanking Washington in both the second and third frames.
Second baseman Shaydon Kubo wasted no time adding to his hit streak. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Kubo's infield single extended his streak to 13 games.
Freshman Jake King and seniors Josh Glenn and Aiden Leahy each carved out a hit as well but no one was able to make it all the way around to home to put a run on the board.
With UW plating three runs in the fifth, Ashton Mansur came in to hold off the Husky attack. While the senior pitched 2.0 solid innings, Washington closed out the win, 5-0, in the seven-inning affair.
GAME 2
Once again, the Huskies bolted out to an early lead. Taking advantage of a couple of UNC errors, UW pushed across 10 runs in the opening inning to take a commanding lead.
This time, Northern Colorado began to mount a comeback.
A two-out walk from Josh Glenn sparked a two-run inning that saw both Lincoln Turner and Chase Cromer force the issue to plate a pair of runs.
UW responded in kind with four runs in the bottom end of the second, one in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Blue and Gold were going to fight until the bitter end, though. A Jacob Banister walk gave him an RBI with Lucas Allen, Aaron Garcia and Jake King all aboard.
Two batters later, Lincoln Turner's RBI single allowed Garcia to score and creep the Bears a little bit closer.
In the seventh, UNC kept charging with an RBI triple from Aiden Leahy that score Hayden Heinze and a Jake King single that quickly brought Leahy the last 90 feet home.
Northern Colorado's rally would be cut short, however, as the Huskies grabbed its third win of the weekend, 16-6.
