UNC concludes Summit League play as the best offensive team in the conference. Across its 24 games in the Summit, UNC hit .303 with a slugging percentage of .439, 45 doubles, eight triples and 17 home runs.
Leading the charge was second baseman Shaydon Kubo. The Hawaiian ranks in the top-5 in the conference in batting average, slugging, OPS, hits (1st), RBI (1st) and doubles (1st). Kubo has also matched Jake King for the longest hitting streak of the season at 11 games.
Designated hitter Caden Wagner has started to pick up the pace towards the end of the season. Over his last six games, Wagner is hitting .333 with two doubles and eight RBI.
Hayden Heinze's seven sacrifice bunts are the third most in the Summit League and 55th most in the nation.
Last Time Out
Caden Wagner, Chase Cromer and Shaydon Kubo all dialed up highlight-worthy performances against North Dakota State but the Bears were unable to snag a victory in Fargo.
Scouting the Huskies
In his 13th year at the helm of the Husky program, Lindsay Meggs has his Washington squad right in the middle of the Pac-12 squabble. However, his men have won eight games in a row and haven't lost a Pac-12 series since traveling to No. 2 Oregon State in late April.
As a team, UW relies on discipline both on the hill and in the field. Washington ranks third in the Pac-12 in fielding percentage (.976) and fourth in ERA (4.38). Nationally, the team falls in the top-50 in both of those categories.
Meggs' staff is led by redshirt junior Stefan Raeth. At 12.13 strikeouts per nine innings, Raeth ranks 41st in the country and third in the conference. His 3.03 ERA is best amongst pitchers with at least 10.0 innings pitched this season.
Offensively, the Huskies look to redshirt sophomore Johnny Tincher. The Sylmar, California native is batting a robust .315 with 12 doubles and 30 RBI on the year.
History against Washington
Thursday will mark the sixth time the Bears and Huskies will go toe-to-toe. UNC is 0-5 versus Washington with an 0-2 mark at Husky Ballpark.
Looking Ahead
The four-game set with Washington marks the end of the season for Northern Colorado. The Bears will return for its second season in the Summit League in 2023.
