Baseball's season comes to a close with gritty effort at Washinton

SEATTLE, Wash. – Northern Colorado saved its best performance against Washington for last but couldn't find timely hits as the Huskies grabbed the win, 3-2.
Starting pitcher Jayden Metz opened strong for the Bears, striking out two in his two innings of work.
Washington plated a pair of runs in the second but when Owen Lockner took the mound, the sophomore delivered in a big way. Across his 4.0 innings of work, the sophomore put up a roadblock on the hill.
While Lockner only struck out one batter, his defense behind him helped the Windsor, Colorado native to a two-hit performance with just a single walk.
Even when Logan Chase took over in the seventh inning, the senior picked up the momentum Lockner had cultivated. Chase pitched a solid 2.0 innings surrendering a single run to keep his team in the game.
Sophomore Shaydon Kubo had UNC's only two hits of the game en route to a 2-4 performance at the dish, his 20th multi-hit game of the season.
That was until Jake King stepped to the plate.
Capping off what's been an incredible freshman campaign, King blasted a two-run home run in his final appearance of 2022, his fourth of the season.
While the Bear crept within one, the rally would end there, handing Washington the 3-2 win.
Game Notes
Northern Colorado's 2022 campaign comes to an end. The Bears will be back for more action in its second season in the Summit League in the Spring of 2023.
