Golden strikes out 8, Bears unable to keep pace with Wildcats

GREELEY, Colo. – Freshman flame thrower Meghan Golden dished out another eight strikeouts but two big innings from Weber State gave the Wildcats its second win of the weekend, 10-1.
Despite surrendering a two-out walk and single in the opening frame, Golden buckled down to end the first on a strikeout looking, giving the Bears a chance to take the lead at the plate.
UNC had batters reach safely in each of the first three innings, including graduate Riley Plogger who logged a 3-3 day at the dish with Northern Colorado's only RBI.
The Blue and Gold couldn't quite find that timely hit, however, as Weber State would go on to capitalize in the second and fifth innings.
Four runs came across for Weber State in the second but only three of them were charged to Golden as WSU jumped on a pair of UNC errors.
The visitors broke open the game in the fifth, sending six runners across the plate and forcing the Bears to come up with at least three runs to extend the affair.
Head coach Ben Garcia's crew weren't going down without a fight, though. Hannah Knox led off the bottom half of the fifth with a single and three batters later, Plogger brought her home with her third hit of the afternoon.
UNC's rally would be cut short, however, giving Weber State the 10-1 victory.
