Softball Hands Weber State First Conference Loss of the Year

UNC Softball picked up its first win over Weber State since 2018
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Softball handed Weber State its first conference of the year and snapped a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats on Friday afternoon. UNC won game one of the doubleheader 7-4 before dropping game two 18-5.
Northern Colorado batted around with a six-run fifth inning to earn their first win over Weber State since the 2018 Big Sky Tournament. Key hits in the inning came from Alyssa Wenzel, Lauren Strathearn, Riley Plogger and Paola Villegas.
Wenzel drove home the first run for the Bears with her double to left center. She scored herself when Strathearn tripled to the left field wall. One batter later Plogger brought home Strathearn with a seeing eye single through the right side.
UNC proceeded to load the bases up 3-2 with Villegas stepping to the plate. She delivered the big hit with a bases-clearing double to right center making it a 6-2 ball game.
Northern Colorado added on an insurance run in the sixth when Wenzel singled to start the inning and later came around to score.
She finished the game going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Strathearn also had a multi-hit game with two.
While the Bears put together timely hits Meghan Golden controlled the circle striking out seven Wildcats in the complete game win.
UNC was unable to tame the WSU bats in game two, trailing early, but never giving in. Hannah Knox hit her second home run of the season in the loss, a three-run shot while going 2-for-2 at the plate. Haley Boxwell joined her with a 2-for-2 game.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado aims to take the series over Weber State on Saturday when they conclude the three-game series. UNC and WSU are set for a noon first pitch.
