Northern Colorado will play six home games over three days
GREELEY, Colo.- After three consecutive road trips to kick off the 2022 season, UNC Softball will finally return to Greeley for their home opener. Their homecoming will consist of a doubleheader on Thursday before they host the Fairfield Inn and Suites Colorado Classic Friday and Saturday.
Â
The Bears will bring some momentum as they take to Gloria Rodriguez Field for the first time this season, as they are coming off of a 6-0 shutout over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and an 8-5 win over Lamar while in Houston.
Â
The shutout was brought to you by freshman Meghan Golden who earned a complete game one-hit shutout and struck out a career high 10 batters. The win against Lamar was thanks to Kaleigh Holland and Jenna Kobbernick, both of whom drove home three runs in the game for the Bears, clinching the victory in their favor.
In their last road trip, the team went 2-2 over the weekend. A home field advantage is just what they need as they look to secure more wins for the program this week.
Â
Northern Colorado will make their home debut against Utah Valley in a doubleheader on Thursday with first pitches at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
Â
On Friday, the Fairfield Inn and Suites Colorado Classic will officially begin as the Bears take on Saint Mary's at 10 am, they will then once again face Utah Valley at 2 pm. Saturday will consist of two games, as they face Saint Mary's and Wisconsin at 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm, respectively. With inclement weather in the forecast for Sunday the Fairfield Inn & Suites Colorado Classic will conclude on Saturday. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
Following their home stint, the Bears will once again hit the road, only heading a short distance up the road to Fort Collins as they compete in a tournament hosted by Colorado State.
