Softball Defeats Rams In Extras

UNC softball went 1-1 on Saturday
The Bears fell to Washington 15-2 with Hannah Knox and Haley Boxwell driving home the two runs in the game.
In game two of the day, CSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third and held it until the fifth. UNC tied the game in the top half of the inning when Lauren Strathearn had an infield single that brought Katie Simonsgaard home. Simonsgaard was pinch running for Alison Steinker who singled to lead off the inning.
The Rams scored a pair in the sixth on a solo home run and UNC error giving the Bears just three outs to work with to extend the game. Northern Colorado took just two at-bats to even the score. Steinker had her second hit of the game again to lead off the inning.
Paola Villegas tied the game on a 2-0 pitch with a home run to centerfield and force extras. It was her first long ball of the year.
In extras, UNC didn't even record a hit to score the game-winning run. Riley Plogger started on second and advanced to third on a passed ball. With two outs Plogger stole home thanks to interference on the Rams in a double steal attempt.
Freshman, Meghan Golden shutdown CSU 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth for the win.
Golden pitched her sixth complete game of the year improving her record to 5-4. She struck out a career-high 11 batters
What's Ahead
UNC closes out the weekend with two more games Sunday in Fort Collins. They will first face Washington at 9:15 am and then Colorado State at noon.
