GREELEY, Colo.- Following a solid season of indoor track and field, UNC will now head to Bozeman, Montana with hopes of capturing a Big Sky Championship title. The Big Sky Championships will take place Thursday through Saturday. The multi-events start Thursday with the rest of the meet starting Friday afternoon.
Â
In their final regular season meet of the spring 2022 season, the Bears competed at the Air Force Collegiate Open in Colorado Springs. Multiple Bears brought home first-place finishes in their events including Andrea Stark in the 60m hurdles, Qwazon Al-Khaliq in the triple jump, Wendira Moss in the 200m, and Jesse Hayward in the 400m.
Â
Throughout the regular season, Northern Colorado has proven they are no stranger to strong individual performances, many of them record breaking. Most notably, Regina Mpigachai has been on fire throughout the season in multiple events. She has broken school records in both the 3000m and the mile with times of 9:47.87 and 4:51.96, respectively.
Â
Also looking to take advantage of their momentum and national recognition are the team's triple jump squad, Qwazon Al-Khaliq, Welre Olivier, Maccee Reed, and Tyler Thimsen, who were recently ranked No. 2 in the country. Al-Khaliq broke the school record earlier this season with a mark of 16.03m, winning him first place at the Texas Tech Shootout hosted by Texas Tech.
Â
UNC will look to capitalize on all of the solid performances from the season as they partake in the three-day conference championships and face familiar Big Sky foes.
