GREELEY, Colo. – Eugene Frazier joined the University of Northern Colorado Track & Field coaching staff as an assistant coach, focusing on the multi-event student-athletes, UNC Director of Track & Field Wayne Angel announced Monday.
Frazier served under Angel as an assistant coach at Florida A&M and Tennessee Tech.
During his impressive coaching career, Frazier aided two former student-athletes to achieve their goal of competing in the Olympics. A pair of his former student-athletes collected NCAA All-American Second Team Honors.
He assisted in producing 18 Ohio Valley Conference Champions, four Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champions, three Southwestern Athletic Conference Champions, five National Junior College Athletic Association National Champions and 30 National Junior College Athletic Association All-Americans.
Frazier rejoins his former mentor after spending last season with fellow Big Sky Conference member Weber State. Under his tutelage, his multi-event athletes, sprinters and jumpers on the men's side scored 47 points at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships and 43 at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships. The men placed third at the outdoor meet, the best finish for Weber State since 2017.
On the women's side, Frazier's group accounted for 22 and 34 points at the Big Sky Conference Championships.
Frazier returned to college athletics after spending the previous six seasons coaching professional athletes.
Before his stint with professional athletes, he joined Angel's staff as an assistant on the Tennessee Tech coaching staff from 2014-2018. The program started competing during the 2012-13 campaign.
He helped Angel lead a fledgling Golden Eagle track and field program to three Ohio Valley Conference Championships and a runner-up finish over four years, a feat that remains unmatched to this date.
Frazier first joined Angel as an assistant coach at Florida A&M from 2012-2014, where he helped the team secure two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships.
He began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant coach at Kansas City Community College where he spent eight years coaching.
As a student-athlete at Alabama State, Frazier earned the Most Outstanding Sprinter during his career. He won the Southwestern Athletic Conference title in the 60 meters, 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay.
He graduated from Alabama State in 1998 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He continued his career as a professional track athlete and twice qualified for the USATF Indoor Nationals.
"I am thrilled to be working with Eugene again. We think alike, strategize alike and most importantly, we share the same commitment to helping our student-athletes succeed on and off the track. With coach Frazier in the fold, I hope lightning will strike again. His experience, dedication and passion for the sport make him an invaluable addition to our program. I know he will collaborate seamlessly with coach Sickler and coach Al Khaliq. – Wayne Angel, UNC Director of Track & Field
"I echo coach Angel's enthusiasm and coaching alongside him again feels like coming home. We had remarkable success together and I am excited to be back alongside him. Our goal has always been to push our athletes to be their best in every aspect of their lives. I am looking forward to contributing to the continued success of the University of Northern Colorado Track and Field program." – Eugene Frazier, UNC Track & Field Assistant Coach for Multis
