Al-Kaliq Wins Triple Jump Title at Big Sky Championships

UNC's men's triple jump team had four student-athletes finish in the top 10 at the Big Sky Championships
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Northern Colorado track and field competed at the Big Sky Championships this weekend hosted by Montana State. The Bears earned four top three finishes and nine top eight finishes.
The men's triple jump lead the way for the team placing three in the top five and four in the top 10. Qwazon Al-Khaliq won the event with his mark of 15.63m. Teammates Welre Olivier, Tyler Thimsen and Maccee Reed all finished in the top 10 as well. Olivier took third place with a jump of 15.36m while Thimsen finished fifth (14.85m) and Reed 10th (13.38m).
Freshman Regina Mpigachai finished had a strong performance at her first Big Sky Championship. She took third place in the women's 800m crossing the line in 2:13.19. She was also on the women's 4x400 team that earned bronze.
Mpigachai was joined by Wendira Moss, Craiesha Johnson and Ruby Ann Gregory ran a 3:51.85 in the event.
For Moss, she also reached the finals of the 200m dash. She ran a 24.83 in the finals to take fifth place.
Andrea Stark set a PR in the 60 hurdles during the qualifying round with a run of 8.63. She ended up taking fourth place in the finals with a time of 8.64.
Both Northern Colorado's men's 4x400 and women's distance medley team finished eighth in their respective races.
The men's team of Jalen Lyon, Hayward, Steven Cross and Michael Ciccio ran a 3:21.54 while the women's distance medley team Chloe Rylance, Geneva Doulliard, Shantell Hafner and Melodie Leroudier crossed the line in 12:24.64.

UNC and the rest of the Big Sky now await to see who has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama.
