Bears' Bats Battle on Opening Day of Troy Cox Classic

UNC dropped its games to Southeastern Louisiana and UT-Arlington
Newcomers Hannah Knox and Riley Plogger went yard for the Blue & Gold for the first time on Friday.
Plogger's home run was a solo shot in the seventh inning against Southeastern Louisiana as UNC was looking to make a comeback.
The Bears had claimed the lead in the fourth inning on a Peyton Gale productive out. Plogger scored the fifth run of the game on a double to right center from Kaileigh Holland.
After home runs in the fifth and sixth to tie and take the lead, Plogger his a solo shot in the seventh to keep UNC's hopes alive.
Game two of the day was the Hannah Knox game. The Butler CC transfer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. She had a slugging % of 2.000 thanks to her double and home run.
UTA jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the top of the first but UNC didn't pack it in and call it a day. Knox's double in the second scored Haley Boxwell while her home run was the second run scored for UNC.
Game Notes
- Kaileigh Holland continues a strong start to her 2022 season going 2-for-7 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored and RBI.
- Riley Plogger seems to be picking up steam after a 3-for-6 game with a run scored.
- Meghan Golden was dealing in the circle striking out six for the day.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado will play two more games on Saturday, but with a slight change. Iowa State was unable to make the trip to Las Cruces. With the withdrawal, UNC will now face Nebraska and Southeastern Louisiana tomorrow at 2 and 4:20 left.
