UNC Softball to play five games in Las Cruces this weekend
GREELEY, Colo.- UNC softball will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico for another weekend of softball hosted by New Mexico State. They will take on five new teams including the host team, Southeastern Louisiana, UT-Arlington, Nebraska, and Iowa State at the Troy Cox Classic.
Â
The Bears are coming fresh off of a trip to the GCU Kickoff Classic in Phoenix, Arizona. They ended last weekend with a 1-4 record, including a blowout 10-1 victory over Bradley.
Â
In their first win of the season, UNC tabbed 13 hits with Peyton Gale, Jenna Kobernick, and Lauren Strathearn all driving in two runs each. All of which were critical in allowing them to run rule Bradley in just five innings.
Â
This weekend, Northern Colorado will start things off on Friday against Southeastern Louisiana at 9 am, before competing against UT-Arlington at 2 pm. Saturday will also consist of two games, one against Nebraska at 2 pm and the other against Iowa State at 7 pm. The Bears will then close out the weekend by facing hosts New Mexico State at 1:30 pm on Sunday.
Â
The team will then make one more road trip to Houston, Texas before returning to Gloria Rodriguez Field for their home opener in March.
