Scouting the Falcons
Head coach Larry Friend enters his 13th year at the helm of the Air Force Women's Soccer program. While the Falcons went 2-6 in an abbreviated spring season, his 2019 campaign was his finest work yet, guiding Air Force to a 10-7-1 mark with a Mountain West record of 5-6.
Jordi Ives, Natalia Gutierrez and Tatiana Limon all return for another season in Colorado Springs this year. The trio was responsible for all of the Falcons' goals during the 2021 spring season.
Following its two exhibitions matchups, Air Force fell in its first regular season game of the season at Denver, 5-0.
History against Air Force
Northern Colorado has enjoyed a myriad of success against the Falcons. All-time, the Bears are 13-4-1 against the in-state rival. The two schools last met in 2018 with the Bears enjoying a 3-1 victory.
Last Time Out
Head coach Tim Barrera couldn't have asked for a better effort in the Bears' season-opener against Colorado College. After the Tigers equalized early in the second half, Lexi Pulley netted two goals, both assisted by freshman Lauren Woodhull, to run away from CC.
Northern Colorado's backline, combined with the stellar effort between the sticks from Morgan Bury provided an exciting way to kick off the 2021 campaign in front of the home crowd.
Colorado Cup
After a brief hiatus in 2019 and a COVID-19 interrupted season in 2020, the Colorado Cup is back. Northern Colorado has already earned four points from its 2-2 draw with Colorado State, and a 3-1 win over Colorado College. Now, trailing Denver by only two points, UNC faces Air Force in the final leg. The Bears claimed the cup for the first time in 2017, behind three goals from Mariel Gutierrez and two from Brooke Braden.
On this Day
UNC hasn't played on August 22, since 2014. The Bears walked away with a 3-2 over Colorado College that day, evening its record on the date (2-2).
