GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado battled New Mexico through the opening 70 minutes Sunday afternoon, but three second-half goals from the Lobos lifted New Mexico to a 4-2 victory at Jackson Stadium.

New Mexico opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Presley Devey found the back of the net off an assist from Gabby Beaudry.

The Bears answered before halftime. In the 40th minute, Hannah Schmitt scored her second goal of the season, with Alex Michael providing the assist, to even the match at 1-1 heading into the break.

Northern Colorado carried that momentum into the second half and quickly grabbed the lead. Just 65 seconds after halftime, Lexi Tuite scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Anneliese Wong, giving UNC a 2-1 advantage.

The Lobos responded with a late surge. Savanah Sanchez equalized in the 72nd minute before Angelina Moschetti scored just over a minute later to put New Mexico ahead 3-2. Devey added her second goal of the afternoon in the 76th minute to give the Lobos the 4-2 advantage.

New Mexico finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots and put 13 attempts on goal compared to six for Northern Colorado. The Bears held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Thordis Melsted recorded nine saves across 90 minutes, including eight in the second half. Tuite led UNC offensively with four shots, placing three on goal, while Schmitt finished with two shots on goal and a goal.

With the result, Northern Colorado moves to 1-3-2 on the season.

Northern Colorado remains at Jackson Stadium to host Air Force on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. MT. The matchup will close out the Bears' home non-conference slate before UNC begins a three-match road trip at UC Riverside, San Diego State, and Boise State.
