Northern Colorado picked up its second straight win
OMAHA, Neb. – Erin Caviness pitched another gem for the Bears and UNC's bats came alive late as Northern Colorado softball left Omaha with two straight wins.
UNC scored three runs in the top of the sixth and kept UNO's bats quiet for a 3-2 win on Sunday.
Caviness pitched her second straight complete game allowing just two runs on six hits. She struck out six Mavericks and walked just one. In the 14 innings against UNO the past two days, she held them to three runs, 11 hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
Mady Young capped off a strong weekend by extending her hit-streak to four games. Her hit to keep the streak alive sparked the Bear's three-run sixth.
The leadoff single by Young became the first run scored when Emma Brockmann placed a single to left field. Brockmann scored the second run of the inning on an Alyssa Wenzel single to center. Carson Fischer scored the last
run of the inning for UNC taking advantage of an Omaha fielding miscue.
The bottom of the sixth was the only time UNO figured out Caviness enough to score. The Mavericks scored a pair of runs, on three hits.
Both pitchers had strong days in the circle limiting their opponent to a combined 10 hits in the game.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado starts Big Sky play next week when they travel to Sacramento. The Bears and Hornets will play a doubleheader on March 27 and follow it up with the three-game series finally on March 28.
