PREVIEW: Northern Colorado Hosts Weber State in Regular-Season Series Finale

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado softball returns home this weekend to Gloria Rodriguez Field for its final regular-season series, hosting Weber State in a key Big Sky Conference series.
The three-game set begins Friday, Apr. 24, with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. MDT, followed by game two at 4:30 p.m. MDT. The series concludes Saturday, Apr. 25, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. MDT.
CATCHING UP WITH THE BEARS: Northern Colorado enters the weekend with a 20-25 overall record and a 6-6 mark in Big Sky play. The Bears are looking to bounce back after a loss to Mountain West opponent Nevada as they prepare for the upcoming conference tournament. As a team, Northern Colorado is hitting .295 with 355 hits, 73 doubles and 8 triples through 45 games this season.
KEY NOTES ON THE BEARS: Northern Colorado boasts one of the top offenses in the Big Sky, with five regular starters hitting above .300. Hayden Nelson (.287) leads the team with 31 RBI's, while Katie Walling (.374) and Ella Gonzales (.370) have each added 28 RBI's. Amailee Morales paces the Bears with a .424 batting average and an impressive .640 slugging percentage. In the circle, Anna Wilming, Grace Algrim, and Ellyse Hydock have continued to find their rhythm, combining for 127 strikeouts this season.
CHASING RECORDS: Head coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm, now sitting at 92 career wins—second-most in program history, continuing to climb towards Shana Easley's record of 110. Amailee Morales adds to her records as one of the most decorated hitters in program history; doubles (58), home runs (32), RBI's (142) and walks (112), lead in batting average (.424), and she also leads the program in on-base percentage (.626). While breaking the record in program history in total bases (359). Ella Gonzales continues her climb in multiple categories, ranking 8th in doubles (33), 8th in RBI's (93), and climbing in hits (142)—just one shy of cracking the top 10. She also ranks 10th in home runs (17) and walks (57). Anna Wilming makes the list as she climbs to 8th in strikeouts (99),, and reaches to hit triple digits.

SCOUTING WEBER STATE (13-36, 4-8 Big Sky): The Wildcats are hitting a solid .275 as a group, led by high-contact bats like Jordan McMahon (.400) and Sadie Kirk (.337), and show gap power with 52 doubles and 18 HR. The staff carries a 6.55 ERA and allows a .340 opponent average with 71 home runs surrendered. Defensively, Weber State holds a .955 fielding percentage with 58 errors on the season.
