Scouting the Griz
Head coach Chris Citowicki enters his fourth season at the helm of the Montana program. In each of his previous three seasons, the Lock Haven graduate has only posted a losing record in one. However, he's never had a losing record in Big Sky play.
Citowicki returns 12 letterwinners from last spring, including six starters. Among those that made their way back to Missoula include two-time first team All-Big Sky selection Taylor Hansen and 2020 Tournament MVP, Taylor Stoeger. Hansen leads all Grizzlies and the conference in assists per game (.42) and total assists (5).
The Bears will have to find a way past four-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week Camellia Xu. Xu, a redshirt freshman, has posted seven straight shutouts for Montana, earning the Player of the Week honors for each of the last three weeks.
History against Montana
Northern Colorado and Montana have been locked in tight battles since UNC entered the Big Sky Conference in 2006. The Bears own the all-time record with a mark of 8-7-4. However, UNC is 4-2-3 in the last nine meetings. The last time Montana made a trip to Greeley was the conference semifinals in 2019 when the Bears beat the Griz, 2-1, en route to UNC's second Big Sky Tournament Title.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado's offense has been on a roll since the beginning of Big Sky play. Senior Lexi Pulley added two goals to her name over the weekend as UNC rolled past Portland State, 4-1, and cruised by Sacramento State, 2-0, two days later. Ashley Franza posted the fifth shutout of her career and Haley O'Nan bagged her second goal of the season.
