MOSCOW, Idaho. – In one of the most entertaining and high-scoring games of the Big Sky season, Northern Colorado wasn't able to chase down Idaho, 3-2, falling for only the first time this fall in conference play.
The fast turf in Idaho propelled the Bears to one of its fastest starts of the season. Just as both teams were getting into the groove of the game, Olivia Seddon had eyes to get UNC on top early.
In the eighth minute of the contest, Seddon tried her luck from 30 yards out. The graduate student was inch-perfect in her effort, lifting her shot past the outstretched hand of the Vandal goalkeeper and the Bears earned the early lead.
Idaho wasn't about to run away just yet. Ten minutes later, the Vandals made use of a free kick in their offensive half to put pressure on Bury and the defense. The chaos led to a free shot on goal, an opportunity the Vandals didn't miss to tie up the contest.
The roller coaster ride was just beginning, though.
Ten minutes later, on a beautiful build-up from the midfield, Lexi Pulley connected with a shot on goal. Though the home keeper made the save, it bounced right to the foot of Taylor Bray who bagged her second goal of the weekend to put the Bears back on top.
After the halftime whistle, the back-and-forth affair continued.
In total, Northern Colorado tallied 12 shots, seven on goal. On the other side, Idaho managed nine shots with five of them on frame in one of the most entertaining games of the Big Sky season.
Morgan Bury dialed up several saves in front of goal to give her offense a chance to break through once more. Seddon (3), Bray (3) and Lucy Hart (2) all racked up multiple shots but it just wasn't the Bears' day in Idaho.
The Vandals tied up the contest at two in the 75th minute and ten minutes later found its first lead of the game with a third goal.
Northern Colorado battled for the final five minutes but it wasn't meant to be as Idaho bagged the win, 3-2.
What They Said
Head coach Tim Barrera
"It just wasn't our day. We gave up the goal on the free-kick, scored two good goals but let them back in when we were playing well.
We'll regroup and get after it this week. There's still a lot to play for with just two games left on the schedule."
Game Notes
The Bears will return to Jackson Stadium on October 22, against Idaho State. Admission is free.
