Bears Drop Defensive Battle to Vandals

Northern Colorado could not overcome an early deficit against Idaho
Northern Colorado women's basketball was in a defensive battle against Idaho, dropping the game 57-46. UNC fought back in the fourth quarter, but the Vandals had built a large enough lead to get the win.
Both teams held the other under 40 percent shooting, with UNC finishing with a 35.8 percent shooting mark. Idaho was held to a 32.8 figure. The Vandals shot 9-of-25 from the three-point line, while UNC was 3-of-9.
Alisha Davis led UNC with 10 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
Idaho established its lead in the first quarter, shooting 46.7 percent and outscoring UNC, 21-11. The Vandals Hailey Christopher hit a three as time expired in the quarter to give them the 10-point lead. The Bears hot 38.5 percent from the floor in the quarter.
The scoring slowed down in the second quarter, with Idaho just edging UNC with a 11-10-point advantage. The Bears defense adjusted well to the Vandals shooting, limiting them to a 28.7 percent mark from the floor. UNC stayed consistent with a 38.5 percent shooting percentage in the quarter. Idaho extended its lead to 32-21.
In the third period, the teams did not score for the first two minutes of the game. Idaho scored the first basket of the quarter, which was quickly responded to by a Bridget Hintz-layup. The Vandals continued to keep the Bears at arms-length extending the lead to 13 at the end of the quarter. UNC was outscored 15-13 while shooting, 35.7 percent. The defense was again solid for the Bears, holding the Vandals to a 28.6 percent mark. Idaho would lead 47-34 after three.
Now in the fourth quarter, Idaho extended out the lead to as much as 21, going on an 11-0 run between the end of the third and the five-minute mark in the fourth. Despite the deficit, the Bears continued to fight and closed the game on a 10-0 run. Davis would score four of the 10 points during the closing minutes of the game, with Micayla Isenbart hitting a three and Alecia Whyte adding a layup.

Game Notes
- Alisha Davis matched her career-high with five blocks against Idaho. Davis has now tied the mark for the fourth most blocks in a single DI game on three occasions.
- UNC out-rebounded Idaho, 39-35, with Davis' and Jasmine Gayles each grabbing six. Gayles total matched her career high. The Bears controlled the paint, with a 20-12 scoring margin over the Vandals.
