Northern Colorado football fought hard, but came up just short in the home opener against South Dakota
GREELEY – Northern Colorado football battled with South Dakota on Saturday afternoon in their home opener coming up just short 14-6.
Strong defense and offensive miscues kept both teams from scoring until the eighth drive of the game. After a scoreless first quarter South Dakota struck first on long 13 play touchdown drive and took that 7-0 lead into the half.
Northern Colorado's offense adjusted at the half and put together a seven play, 80-yard drive to pull within one of the Yotes as the extra point was blocked. Milo Hall capped off the drive with a five-yard run. The Bears had a pair of passes gain chunk yards along with a couple of South Dakota personal fouls to move the ball down the field on the scoring drive.
Both defenses continued to reign supreme in the game until South Dakota scored its second touchdown of the game on another 13 play drive to go into the fourth quarter up 14-6.
Northern Colorado had its opportunities in the fourth but was unable to come up with the game-tying drive.
