High School:
- Gilliland earned First Team All-State Class 2A as a senior as presented by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAANow.com), ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.com. The CHSAA team was selected by Colorado high school coaches.
- He was also an Honorable Mention All-State Class 2A selection by The Denver Post in 2014.
- Gilliland played both offensive guard and defensive tackle for Sterling High School.
- He was credited with 84 tackles his senior season, broke up four passes, recovered three fumbles and had 1.0 sack.
- He helped lead Sterling High to the First Round of the Colorado Class 2A State Playoffs, where they lost a heartbreaking, one-point game (29-28) to No. 5 seed Gunnison in the opening round.
- His high school football coach was Rob Busmente.
