Buffs too much for the Bears
9/19/2019 6:57:00 PM | Women's Soccer
UNC knew their third road game in the last seven days would be a challenge. After all, the Bears were facing a nearly-ranked Colorado Buffaloes squad with a week's rest on their home pitch. The challenge proved too much as Colorado improved to 7-1 overall with a 4-0 victory.
The Buffs, whose lone loss came on the road to #6 Florida State, opened the scoring with two goals in the game's first 17 minutes before closing the first half with a 3-0 advantage. The hosts would add one more goal in the closing minutes to close out the victory.
With play centered on UNC's half of the field for most of the day, the Bears managed just four shots with three of those coming on goal. Meanwhile, the hosts fired away with 24 shots, seven on goal.
TIM'S TAKE
"Overall, a tough day for the Bears but there were some good things out there. We played hard and recovered a bit in the second half. We got a good look and minutes from a number of players, which will help us in Big Sky play. We'll correct the mistakes, accentuate the positives and turn our focus to South Dakota. Last year we lost at USD 2-1 so our team is looking forward to the rematch."
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Bears finally head back home to the friendly confines of Jackson Field, where they are 1-0-1 on the year, for a noon match this Sunday against South Dakota (2-5). Admission is free.
