The Matts lead UNC to a series opening win
5/16/2019 6:38:00 PM | Baseball
After a couple of miscues helped Seattle to score five runs in the sixth, UNC saw its once five-run lead disappear. Unfazed, the Bears struck for five more runs in the bottom of the inning and added an insurance run to double up the Redhawks, 12-6.
Matt Burkart had himself a day, his three-run home run broke the 6-6 tie in the sixth. Adrian Vela and Jake Gitter kept the inning going and then came around to score on the Matt Zoba 2-RBI single, which made it 11-9.
After the first three batters of the third inning, it looked like the Bears were going to run away. With one out, Gitter smashed a solo home run over the right centerfield fence and Zoba followed with another home run, his coming on an 0-2 count.
Burkart's day started in the first inning when he smacked a three-run double up against the left field fence that put the Bears up 3-1. Later in the inning, he came around and scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
UNC and Seattle will play Game 2 of their season-finale series Friday at 1 p.m.
