Northern Colorado will travel to play Southern Utah
After sweeping its home stand, Northern Colorado softball will get back on the road for a three-game series against Southern Utah.
UNC will head to Cedar City with a four-game win streak, after sweeping the three-game series against Idaho State. On Tuesday, the Bears defeated Metro State 7-5, with a season high, 11 hits in the game.
Katie Simonsgaard showed huge growth in the last four games, batting .556 with three runs scored, two RBIs, along with one double and one triple.
Cheyenne Talmadge is making the most of her final few games at UNC, batting .500 with three runs scored and three RBIs during the four-game win streak. The senior from Pueblo, Colo. is second on the team with a .277 average and tied for first with 14 runs scored.
The lineup for UNC showed improvement with discipline at the plate, drawing 9 walks, while striking out 13 times. The Bears also outscored their opponents 24-11 in the four games, while recording a .316 average and a .510 slugging percentage.
Valerie Vidal was responsible for two of the teams wins during the streak, while she appeared in all four games. Vidal now has a 31 career wins, tied for most in division I program history.
Along with Vidal, Taylor Puga and Maggie Thurston compiled a quality stretch for the Bears pitching staff. The three combined for a 3.46 ERA in 26 innings pitched, while recording 10 strikeouts and six walks.
UNC can keep the win streak going this weekend with another Big Sky opponent on the schedule.
Scouting the Thunderbirds
Southern Utah has a 1-5 record in the Big Sky this season and 3-24 overall. The Thunderbirds were swept by Weber State in Ogden this past weekend, with two of the game being decided by one run. Dream Weaver has been swinging the bat for Southern Utah, batting .402 with one home run and nine RBIs, while scoring 16 runs. Hanna Wynn has started 10 games for the Thunderbirds, recording a 2-10 record with a 4.81 ERA.
Northern Colorado won the three-game series against Southern Utah in Greeley last season.
Following the Bears
Northern Colorado will play a doubleheader against Southern Utah on Friday, April 12, with the first game starting at 1 pm MST and the second game scheduled to start at 3 pm. The series concludes on Saturday, April 13 with first pitch at 12 pm.
