@BearsSoftball Heads to Texas for Second Tournament

Northern Colorado will play five games, including two against No. 14 Texas Tech
For the second time this season, Northern Colorado softball will travel to Texas, as the team will participate in the Jeannine McHaney Classic. The tournament is hosted by Texas Tech in Lubbock and UNC will take on the Red Raiders twice this weekend.
The Bears will also face Jacksonville State two times and Gardner-Webb once.
UNC is coming off a disappointing road trip to Phoenix, Ariz. last weekend in the Lopes Up Classic. The Bears went 1-4, dropping the last four games. The tournament started well for the Bears as the team defeated Iowa State 7-6.
In Phoenix, Cheyenne Talmadge led UNC with a .333 batting averaging, going four-for-12 with one run scored and one RBI. Talmadge has a .222 average on the season.
Valerie Vidal started four of the team's five games this past weekend, posting a 1-3 record in 22.1 innings pitched. Vidal struck out nine batters, while only walking two. Vidal has a 4-11 record on the season in 80 innings pitched, with 41 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Dani Young had a productive weekend for the Bears, going four-for-13, with one run scored and three RBIs. The freshman had one of her best weekends since coming to UNC and has a .242 batting average for the season.
UNC will play five games in Lubbock this weekend, looking to turn the season around.
Scouting the Gamecocks
Jacksonville State enters the Jeannine McHaney Classic with a 9-4 record, with their most game coming against Georgia Tech that the Gamecocks won 4-3. Jacksonville State also split a series with Southern Miss, winning 5-4 and dropping game two 4-10. Taylor Beshears has been a big bat for the Gamecocks, batting .395 and hitting four home runs, while leading the team with 15 RBIs. Faith Sims has been the ace of the staff for Jacksonville State, starting seven games with a 1.71 ERA and six complete games, with two shutouts.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech comes in ranked the No. 14 team in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and holds a 19-1 record on the season. The Red Raiders swept a two-game series against UTEP on Tuesday, topping the Miners 10-0 and 16-8. Texas Tech also hosted the Texas Tech Invitational, sweeping two-game series against UT Arlington and North Texas. Jessica Hartwell has been impressive for the Red Raiders, batting .414 with five home runs and 21 RBIs. Erin Edmoundson is the workhorse for Texas Tech, pitching 66.2 innings in 14 appearances, including nine starts. Edmoundson has a 1.68 ERA with an 11-1 record.
Northern Colorado was swept by Texas Tech in the 2014 Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, falling 6-1 and 9-1 in six innings.
Scouting the Runnin' Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb holds a 12-6 record on the season, going 2-1 in last weekends Red and Black Tournament. The Runnin' Bulldogs lost to Mercer 4-5, while defeating Maryland-Eastern Shore 9-1 and Wright State, 7-0. Center fielder Andria Booth went two-for-four with two RBIs in the win over Wright State. Brooke Perry was strong in the circle against Wright State, pitching a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk.
UNC played one game against Gardner-Webb in 2014, dropping the game 8-2.
Following the Bears

UNC will be back on the field on Saturday, March 9th with a doubleheader, starting with Jacksonville State at 10 am and immediately followed by Gardner-Webb at 12:30 pm. The Bears will wrap up the weekend against Tech at 11:30 am on Sunday, March 10th.
