No Rust for Bears In Big Sky Opener

UNC women's basketball opened the 2019-20 Big Sky Conference Season with a win over Portland State
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's basketball showed no signs of rust after a 13-day break between games. They opened the 2019-20 Big Sky season with a bang defeating Portland State 77-58. UNC was led by the 20-plus point performances by Bridget Hintz and Micayla Isenbart and strong defense holding PSU to 38.9 percent shooting.
Saturday's win puts UNC back to .500 on the year at 5-5 and 1-0 in the Big Sky.
Hintz led the charge with a career-high 21 points showing her presences in the paint, while Isenbart provided the outside shooting with her 20 points including going 5-of-8 from behind the arc.
The Bears started the game with a quick 10-2 run and never looked back as Isenbart made three of her five 3s in the first 10 minutes. She connected on her first four attempts from 3-point land. UNC led by as much as 12 in the quarter and was up 24-17 at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, it was the Bridget Hintz show inside scoring seven points including going 3-for-3 from the field. While Hintz and Isenbart set the tone on offense the whole team turned up the pressure on defense holding the Vikings to 1-of-12 shooting in the quarter and forcing nine turnovers. That allowed Northern Colorado to lead 38-21 at the break.
With the game in hand for the majority of the second half, Portland State cut the UNC lead to as little as 11 by the end of the third before ballooning back to as much as 23 in the final quarter.
