Northern Colorado dropped its first road conference game
BOZEMAN, Mont.- Northern Colorado women's basketball dropped its first road game of the season, 91-58 against Montana State.
"It was a tough loss," head coach Jenny Huth said. "Credit to Montana State. They were sharp and firing on all cylinders. They're a tough defensive team, along with being physical. They switched actions on us and it obviously worked really well. We will look at film and continue to learn and grow. We've played our best when we play inside-out and we struggled with that tonight, especially in the second half. We can't give up 90 points on the road and expect to win or turn the ball over 22 times."
The Bobcats took advantage of the Bears' mistakes, scoring 33 points off turnovers.
Montana St. had a strong shooting night, finishing with a 53.8 percentage from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range. UNC could not match the Bobcats shooting and were held to a 34 percent shooting night. The Bears also shot 33.3 percent from behind the arc.
In the first quarter, Montana St. built a 23-17 lead over UNC. The Bears scored well, going 5-of-12 from the field. Alexis Chapman scored five of her 10 points in the opening quarter.
UNC would keep the game close in the second quarter, as the Bobcats had a 22-20 scoring edge in the quarter. The Bears went 7-of-8 from the free throw line and 5-of-16 from the floor to trail by eight at halftime. Kadie Deaton scored seven of her 11 points in the quarter, going 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.
The Bobcats broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring UNC 17-8. They held the Bears to 3-of-11 shooting and 0-of-3 from three-point range. Montana St. would explode for 29 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 13-of-19 from the floor.
The Bobcats would get their third conference win over UNC, 91-58.
"We believe in this team and we will re-group to focus fixing things under our control." Huth added. "We will defend much more effectively and working with better synergy on the defensive end."
