Bears Face No. 11 UCLA on Friday

Northern Colorado travels to LA for its second match up against a ranked Pac-12 team
Riding a two-game win streak, Northern Colorado women's basketball will be back on the road this Friday. UNC will play its second, ranked Pac-12 team this season, as they travel to play No. 11 UCLA.
The game will be a trip down memory lane for head coach Jenny Huth, who was an assistant coach for the Bruins for eight seasons.

Opening Tip
Northern Colorado won its second-straight game on Tuesday, defeating in-state foe, Air Force, 72-62. UNC set a single-game, Division I program record with 12 team blocks. The Bears shot 41% from the floor and held the Falcons to a 30% shooting percentage. After the Falcons pulled within three of the Bears at halftime, UNC asserted its control in the third period, outscoring Air Force 18-12. Kadie Deaton scored half of her points in the quarter and Alisha Davis recorded four of her five blocks in the quarter.

Davis recorded her first career double-double against the Falcons, scoring 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. The Aurora, Colo. native was the major contributor to the team's record-setting night with five blocks, a career-high for her.

UNC's freshman accounted for 48 of the team's 72 points in the win over Air Force. Deaton led UNC with a new career-high 18 points. Jasmine Gayles set her own personal mark with 16 points.

Deaton converted 10-13 free-throws against the Falcons and is shooting 72% from the line this season. The Wausau, Wis. native leads the Big Sky in both free-throw attempts(36) and made free-throws(26), while ranking eighth and 14th nationally in the two categories.

The Bears bench has outscored their opponents' in four of the team's five games this season.
Scouting the Bruins
UCLA hosts the Bears as the No. 11 team in the nation, making them the second top-15 team UNC has faced this season. The Bruins are 3-0 this season, with their wins coming at home. UCLA defeated another Big Sky team, Weber State, to open the season, topping the Wildcats 85-45.

Early in the season, UCLA leads the Pac-12 and ranks 17th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing opponents 49.3 points per game. Junior forward Michaela Onyenwere leads the Bruins with 17.0 points per game. UCLA is second in the conference and sixth in the nation with 22 assists per game. Redshirt-sophomore guard, Lindsey Corsaro, has recorded 12 assists through three games for the Bruins.
History against UCLA
Colorado and UCLA will have played only once prior to Friday's game. The two teams met in the third round of the Women's NIT in 2015. The Bruins defeated the Bears, 74-60 in Los Angeles, who hosted the postseason game.

Returning to LA
Huth was an assistant coach for the Bruins from 2011 to 2018 before taking over the head job here in Greeley. Along with Huth, the UNC coaching staff is rooted in the UCLA program. Christian Blanks spent three seasons as UCLA's video coordinator before joining Huth's staff. Blanks was a part of the team that advanced to three-straight Sweet 16s. Kari Korver played for Bruins from 2012 to 2017, starting at shooting guard for three seasons. Korver helped the team to win the 2015 WNIT and appear in a pair of Sweet 16s.
