Bears Begin Final Home Stand of the Regular Season

Northern Colorado hosts Vikings and Hornets this weekend
Northern Colorado is back on the pitch and hosts Portland State and Sacramento State this weekend at Jackson Stadium.
UNC [5-9-3, 3-1-2] soccer can get comfortable at home now as the team's road schedule concluded last weekend. With three regular season games left and hosting the Big Sky Tournament, the Bears will get stay home for the next few weeks.
Wrapping up on the road, UNC split games, starting with a dominating, 3-1 win over Southern Utah last Friday. On Sunday, UNC dropped its game against Northern Arizona, 2-1.
UNC sits at second in the Big Sky with 11 points, trailing Montana by two points. Â
Olivia Seddon scored her fourth goal of the season against Southern Utah in 25th minute, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead. The senior is tied for seventh in the Big Sky in goals and ranks seventh in points with nine.
Lexi Pulley picked up two assists against the Thunderbirds, setting up Cara Quinn's goal and Kalen Needling's as well. The sophomore has three assists on the season and is tied for fourth in the conference with five other players, including teammate Kaitlyn Meeder. Â
Taylor Bray ranks fifth in the conference in shots with 32, averaging 2.00 per game and putting 12 of them on net. Bray has scored one goal and has one assist in 2019.
The Bears will look to try and move closer to solidifying a first-round bye in the conference tournament with two wins this weekend.
Scouting the Vikings
Portland State arrives in Greeley with a 3-2-0 conference record to place them in a tie for fourth with nine points. The Vikings played one game last week, falling to Sacramento State 2-1 at home. The loss snapped a two-match, win streak for Portland State. Freshman midfielder, Sienna Higinbotham, is third in the Big Sky with five goals, scoring one each in the past two games. Freshman goalkeeper, Enya Hernandez, defends the net with the third-best save percentage in the conference at .788.
Scouting the Hornets
Sacramento State is tied for fourth in the conference with nine points and a 2-0-3 record. This past weekend, the Hornets defeated Portland State 2-1 and is currently on a two-game win streak. Junior forward Kylee Kim-Bustillos is the top scorer in the Big Sky, with eight goals and 19 points. Kim Bustillos has added three assists and is tied for fourth, along with Pulley. Â Junior defender Aubrey Goodwill also tops the conference with seven assists. Goalkeeper Aaliayh Fesili leads the conference in goals against average (0.79) and save percentage (.859), along with being tied for first with six shutouts.
Following the Bears
Northern Colorado will begin its final homestand against Portland State on Friday, October 18th at 7 pm MT. The Bears will play Sacramento State on Sunday, October 20th at 1 pm.
