Northern Colorado men's basketball adds to its backcourt depth with the addition of Tre'Shon Jones-Smoots
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball added to its depth with the signing of Tre'Shon Jones-Smoots. The 6-1, 175-pound guard comes to Greeley from Sacramento, California. With the signing of Smoots, UNC's 2018 class total hits five signees.
"We are really excited about the addition of Tre'Shon Jones-Smoots to the Bears Basketball Family! Tre brings all the positive attributes that we look for in a student-athlete. He will be a great representative for the Bears in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the community," head coach Jeff Linder said. "The fans coming to Bank of Colorado Arena will be excited to watch a really quick and athletic guard who can score in a variety of ways while still being able to create easy shots for his teammates."
The Golden State native averaged double figures scoring over his high school career at Grant Union High School under head coach Deonard Wilson, capped off by averaging 23.0 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 5.1 assists per game his junior year. Jones-Smoots also excelled on the AAU scene with the prestigious Adidas Gold Gauntlet Team Lillard coached by Raymond Young and Phil Taylor.
He was a three-time All-Delta League honoree along with being on the Northern California McDonalds Classic All-Tournament team three times. Jones-Smoots is a team captain and two-time team MVP. Not only has he excelled on the basketball court, but in the classroom as well by landing on the honor roll all four years. Jones-Smoots did not play his senior season due to a knee injury that happened July of 2017.
Jones-Smoots joins the 2018 class of Bodie Hume, Sam Masten, Cole Bergan, and Roy Grigsby.
Northern Colorado is coming off a 26-win season in which they won the College Insider Tournament championship.
