The Colorado native will add even more depth to the front court
GREELEY, Colo.- The future continues to look brighter for Northern Colorado men's basketball team as they add Roy Grigsby to its 2018 recruiting class. UNC is coming off of a championship in the College Insider Tournament and a program-best 26 wins.
The 6-9 forward arrives at UNC from New Hampton, New Hampshire, but was originally born in Louisville, Colorado. Grigsby was an All-Conference selection in both 2016 and 2017 at Monarch High School, as well as an Honorable Mention selection on the All-Region Team.
During his time at Monarch, Grigsby averaged 15.1 points per game, 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and shot 42% from three-point range while playing for Coach Josh Brenning.
Outside of the court, Grigsby excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-State his junior and senior years. Grigsby also earned Front Range League All-Academic Team, CHSAA Academic All-State, and Honor Roll in all four years at Monarch.
Grigsby joins an already loaded class with fellow signees Cole Bergan, Sam Masten and Bodie Hume.
Coach Linder's Take
"We're very excited to welcome Roy to the Bear's family! Roy fits what we're looking for in a player in terms of his character, his track record in the classroom, and his ability and potential on the court. One of our goals in recruiting from Day 1 has been to build the core of our roster from in-state players, and Roy (a Monarch HS graduate) is a perfect example of that. Roy had a standout high school career in multiple sports and then chose to dive solely into basketball and play his post-graduate year for Coach Nick Whitmore at one of the best prep schools in the country at New Hampton Prep School in New Hampshire. Â Roy was challenged by some of the best prep players in the country on a daily basis over the past year, and we believe Roy is ready to compete on our roster. Roy has great size, he plays with a great motor, and he can really shoot the ball. We have no doubt that Roy's best days are ahead of him."
