NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Northern Colorado baseball continued its four-game series against CSUN on Saturday, when the two teams played a double-header. The Bears were swept by the Matadors on the day by the scores of 4-2 and 6-0.
How It Happened
Game 1:
CSUN took an early lead in the second by stringing together three straight singles to open the inning and pushing another run across later on to go up 2-0.
UNC responded and tied it up in the fourth with a lead-off single from Cole Maltese and then Brett Minnick hit his second home run in as many days to even it up at two.
The Matadors took the lead for good in the seventh when Yuske Akitoshi hit a lead-off home run to put CSUN up 3-2. They added on an insurance run in the eighth to take the first game of the double header.
Game 2:
The second game of the twin bill was a pitcher's duel through the first six innings with neither team able to score a run. CSUN's pitcher, Kenny Rosenburg had a no-hitter through six innings before Dean Lawson game into the game as a pitch-hitter and broke up the no-no.
In the seventh the Matadors broke the game open on UNC by loading the bases and scoring the first run of the game. They again loaded the bases for Nolan Bumstead who knocked a grand slam to shut the door on the Bears.
CSUN tacked on one more run in the eighth on a wild pitch to close out the double-header sweep and to clinch the four game series.
