@NCBearsBaseball Drops Final Game of Series with North Dakota State

UNC baseball dropped the final game of the four game series against North Dakota State Sunday afternoon 8-3

NDSU ended up winning both of the games. The completion of the first game ended with a score of 13-11, and they followed it up with an 8-3 Bison win in the second game.

UNC entered the bottom of the eighth inning when play resumed from Saturday's game trailing 12-11.

The Bears would go down in order in the eighth and see NDSU add an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Ryan Yamane (Manoa, Hawaii) looked to of started a rally, when Jensen Park (Kaneohe, Hawaii) ended up grounding into a double-play. North Dakota State would get the last out winning the game, 13-11.

"We gave that game away yesterday into today," said head coach Carl Iwasaki, "but we are going to learn from it."

Sunday's regularly scheduled game saw a lot of runs early on with the two teams combining for five runs in the first two innings.

NDSU got the scoring started in the first inning with four hits by the first six batters to go up 2-0.

Northern Colorado responded right back though. Yamane led off with a single, followed by a two-run home run from Park to deep left-center field. The homerun was Park's first of the season.Â
NDSU regained the lead in the second getting across one run.

Park finished the game going 2-4, scoring two runs and two RBI.
Â
The teams were pretty quiet in the middle stretch of the game, with North Dakota State taking a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning. Over the final three innings, NDSU outscored UNC 4-1.

The first of the runs came in the seventh inning, when Ben Peterson hit a solo shot for the Bison. In the eighth NDSU added another run giving them an 8-2 lead.

The Bears were able to get a run back in the eighth, with a Park single, and Brandon Vaughn (Louisville, Colo.) drove him in with a hard hit single.

In the ninth NDSU would add two more runs to get to the decisive 8-3 final score. The Bison ended up taking the four game series 3-1.

"We have a young ball club and are learning," Iwasaki said. "We have to just keep working on the fundamentals in these non-conference games so we are
ready to go for the WAC season."

Northern Colorado has a quick turnaround, traveling to Nebraska for a two game series starting on Tuesday. First pitch for the game between the Bears and Cornhuskers is at 12:35 p.m.
