Northern Colorado baseball's four game win streak was snapped by Regis on Tuesday afternoon

GREELEY—Northern Colorado baseball saw its four game win streak snapped Tuesday afternoon at the hands of Regis University (10-14). The Rangers defeated the Bears 9-2 at Jackson Field, ending the run.

Regis got out to a hot start scoring eight runs in the first three innings putting the Bears (6-12) in a hole they couldn't get out of.

"Regis came out swinging the bats just like last week," head coach Carl Iwasaki said. "The difference between last week and this week is they put up eight runs early today and that meant we really had to chip back into this."

UNC battled to get out of the hole with two runs of its own in the first three innings, but also left four men on base during that time. For the game, the Bears left six players stranded.

Despite the offensive struggles, freshman infielder Marco Castilla (Littleton, Colo.) went a perfect 3-3 on the day and scored a run.

"The pitchers gave me a first pitch fastball each time," Castilla said. "I had prepared for that in the cage and in batting practice and took advantage of it at the plate."

Leaving runners on base was not the team's only issue on Tuesday. Troubled defense did not help either. UNC had five errors leading to four of Regis' nine runs being unearned.

After the first three innings Northern Colorado pitchers were able to get things going and limit the damage from the hot swinging Rangers.

Relief pitchers Allen Cook (Friendswood, Texas) and Logen Letofsky (Pueblo, Colo.) were two bright spots for UNC each going 2.0 innings combining for just one hit and no runs.

"Everything is earned on this team and Allen Cook, Marco Castilla, and Logen Letofsky earned the chance for more opportunities this weekend and beyond," Iwasaki said.

Northern Colorado will look to rebound on Friday when they start up WAC play again hosting North Dakota at 3:00 p.m. The teams will play a three game series over the weekend.
