LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Northern Colorado softball team took to the field today for two games, playing UMKC at 1:30 p.m. and host school #23 Kansas at 3:30 p.m. The Bears would have a hard time stopping the Kangaroos late game surge dropping the game in the eighth inning, 5-4.
In the second game, Kansas's pitching would be a factor shutting the Bears out, 5-0.
In the first game UMKC held the Bears scoreless until the sixth inning, with UNC putting up two runs and tying the game up at two.
Northern Colorado put themselves in another hole giving up two runs in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Kangaroos the 4-2 advantage.
Northern Colorado battled back with Jaicy Sutak and Morgan Yuhas both driving in an RIB, evening the game at 4-4.
UNC held UMKC to a goose egg in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
The Bears earned no runs in the top half of the frame, but the 'Roos scored in the bottom of the eighth to win the game off an UNC error.
In their second game on the day, UNC struggled to hit Alicia Pille who came into the game with a 13-0 record on the season.
UNC managed to shut out the Jayhawks until the fifth inning before KU put up three runs and added two more runs in the sixth.
Northern Colorado will look to rebound against St. Louis tomorrow when they take the field at 9:00 a.m.
