GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado softball team opened up their home season schedule today taking on the Rams of Colorado State. UNC mustered only two innings of offense falling short against CSU, 8-6.

"Nobody ever wants to get down early," said head coach Shana Easley. "They were a very good team and a competitive team and I give them a lot of credit. We will use this game and the next seven games to prepare us for conference."

The Rams jumped out to a big lead in the second inning stringing together five runs and putting a lot of pressure on the Bears.

UNC got the runs rolling in the fifth, stringing together two runs with two outs on the board.

Jaicy Sutak got things started drawing a walk with Erica Dick following with a RBI triple.

CSU made a pick-off attempt at Dick, but had a miscue on the throw, allowing Dick to steal home inching the Bears closer, 7-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Northern Colorado tried some more two out magic with, Melissa Marcovecchio hitting a single and Mikayla Duffy drawing a walk.

Kaitlin Flynn stepped into the batter's box next and delivered a small glimpse of hope with a homerun over the left field fence, bring the score to, 8-5 in favor of the Rams.

Rachel Johnson delivered next with a double to right field, putting another Bear in scoring position.

Senior Nicole Hudson followed Johnson ripping one up the middle, scoring the pinch runner Kaley Garcia on the play, bringing the score to 8-6.

The Bears rally would end with Molly Ryan not getting quite enough on her hit, grounding out for the third out.

UNC will take to the road next when they head to Lawrence, Kansas for five games, March 12 through March 15.
