FARGO, N.D. - Northern Colorado baseball opened its weekend series in dominant fashion Friday evening, rolling past North Dakota State, 10-4, at Newman Outdoor Field.
UNC used a balanced offensive attack and a decisive seventh inning to pull away, collecting 14 hits and capitalizing on NDSU miscues to secure the series-opening victory.
Northern Colorado wasted little time settling in at the plate, with Brandon Sanchez leading the charge in a standout performance. The third baseman went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, pacing a lineup that saw seven different players record a hit.
Jaden Stone added a big day offensively, finishing 3-for-6 with a team-high three RBI, while Sam Pease chipped in with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI of his own.
After building a 5-2 lead through six innings, the Bears broke the game open in the seventh. Northern Colorado plated five runs in the frame, taking advantage of multiple hits and defensive errors by the Bison to extend the lead to 10-2.
On the mound, Reece Wagner delivered a strong start, earning the win after tossing 5.2 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out six. Gus Allred closed the door out of the bullpen, picking up the save with 3.1 innings of relief.
North Dakota State threatened late with a pair of runs in the eighth, but Northern Colorado's pitching staff limited further damage to seal the win.
