Softball Earns Sunday Split with South Dakota to Close Colorado Classic

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado split Sunday's doubleheader with South Dakota at Gloria Rodriguez Field, falling 7-4 in the opener before bouncing back for a 4-2 victory in the finale.

GAME ONE: South Dakota 7, Northern Colorado 4
South Dakota used a four-run second inning to take an early lead and maintained control throughout the game. Northern Colorado got on the board in the fourth when Amailee Morales launched a solo home run, and the Bears pulled closer in the sixth after Morales reached and Ella Gonzales delivered a two-run homer to center. UNC added another run in the seventh, but the Coyotes held on for the 7-4 win. Gonzales finished with two hits and three RBIs for the Bears.

GAME TWO: Northern Colorado 4, South Dakota 2
The Bears responded in game two behind strong pitching and timely offense. UNC scored twice in the third inning when Amailee Morales doubled to drive in a run and later scored on an error. After South Dakota tied the game in the fifth, Northern Colorado answered in the bottom half as Gonzales drove in the go-ahead run with a double and Hayden Nelson reached on an error that brought in another run.

Sadie Kahl earned the win with five innings of work, while Grace Algrim recorded the save with two scoreless innings. Northern Colorado finished with six hits in the 4-2 victory.
