Northern Colorado Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah. - Northern Colorado baseball erupted for 17 hits and used a huge early offensive outburst to defeat Utah Valley 14–3 on Saturday afternoon in game one of the Saturday double header.
The Bears set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a seven-run second inning to build a commanding 10–0 lead. Utah Valley answered with a run in the second and two more in the third, but Northern Colorado's pitching staff held the Wolverines scoreless the rest of the way while the offense continued to add insurance runs late.
Several Bears had big days at the plate. Logan Pruski led the way, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, while Zeke Minic finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jaden Stone also recorded three hits and drove in two runs, and Mason Griffin added a pair of hits, including a double, while collecting two RBIs. Brett Barber chipped in two hits and an RBI as Northern Colorado scored runs in five different innings.
On the mound, Gus Allred earned the win for the Bears, improving to 1–1 on the season. The left-hander worked 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out three. Trevor Landen provided strong relief, tossing the final 4.2 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out four to keep Utah Valley off the board for the remainder of the game.
GAME TWO
Northern Colorado struggled to generate offense in game two of the double header as Utah Valley secured the 12–1 victory to split on the day.
The Bears managed just two hits in the contest and struck out 11 times. The Wolverines broke through in the second and continued to pile on runs through the fourth inning. Storey took the loss for Northern Colorado, allowing seven hits and eight runs (four earned) while striking out six over 3.2 innings. Logan Moser followed with 1.1 innings of relief, surrendering two runs, and Tate Smith worked the sixth inning and allowed two runs.
Northern Colorado's lone run came in the third inning when designated hitter Easton Bryant delivered an RBI single. Bryant accounted for one of the Bears two hits on the day, while pinch hitter Wilson Kieffer added the other with a single late in the game.
Despite the offensive struggles, Northern Colorado showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks. Brandon Sanchez and Jaden Stone each worked two free passes, while Sanchez and Bryant also stole bases.
ON DECK: Northern Colorado returns to action Sunday for the fourth game of the series against the Wolverines. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. MT on March 8.
