Utah Valley struck first in the opening inning, plating two runs on a double and a sacrifice fly to take an early 2–0 lead. The Wolverines continued to build momentum over the next few innings, adding single runs in the second and fourth before pushing two more across in the third to stretch the advantage to 5–0.
Northern Colorado threatened in the middle frames but did not break through until the sixth inning. Jaden Stone sparked the rally with a single before Zeke Minic followed with a base hit to put two runners on. Logan Pruski drove in the Bears first run with an RBI single to left, setting the stage for Ethan Mooser. The UNC right fielder delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a three-run home run to right field to pull the Bears within five at 9–4.
Utah Valley responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Wolverines capitalized on hits and walks to produce a four-run frame and regain control of the game, extending their lead to 13–4 before adding another run in the seventh.
Mooser finished with a team-high three RBIs on his sixth-inning homer, while Minic led the Bears with two hits. Pruski added an RBI and reached base twice, and Stone also recorded a hit and scored a run as Northern Colorado totaled nine hits on the afternoon.
On the mound, Mitch Haythorn made the start for UNC, working three innings with three strikeouts. Asher Clark, Kaveh Meredith, and Mac Hibben combined to pitch the remaining innings in relief.
ON DECK: Northern Colorado closes out the series against Utah Valley on Monday, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. MT. The Bears will look to finish the trip strong in the series finale against the Wolverines.
