GREELEY, Colo. - Three Northern Colorado track and field athletes have extended their seasons into NCAA postseason competition, earning spots in the NCAA Division I West First Round, set for May 28–31 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Junior Jerome Campbell, a sprinter and hurdler from Jamaica, will compete in two events, the 100-meter dash (No. 17 NCAA DI West, 10.16) and the 110-meter hurdles (No. 11 NCAA DI West, 13.43). Campbell continues to build on a decorated collegiate career, having qualified for regionals in 2024 as well.
Freshman Zander Cruzan, representing UNC in the 400 meters (No. 40 NCAA DI West, 45.97), enters his first NCAA regional appearance after an impressive debut season. The Cortez native earned his spot among the top 48 athletes in the region with a strong finish to his spring campaign.
Rounding out the Bears' trio is Kiana Van Haaren, a junior from New Braunfels, Texas, who will compete in the women's long jump (No. 21 NCAA DI West, 6.33m – 20' 9.25"). The regional meet will feel like a homecoming for Van Haaren as her hometown lies just a short drive from College Station, setting the stage for a memorable postseason performance close to family and friends.
Last season, four UNC athletes qualified for the West First Round, including Campbell, middle-distance standouts Jesse Hayward and Regina Mpigachai, and sprinter Alexia Austin. This year's qualifiers carry on that tradition, looking to advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, which will be held June 11–14 in Eugene, Oregon.
The NCAA East First Round, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, will also run May 28–31. Qualifiers from both regions will compete in Eugene for national titles.
The full list of NCAA First Round participants is available on the NCAA website.
