FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman hurdler Daniel Beckford delivered a clutch performance for Northern Colorado on Wednesday, securing his spot in Friday's quarterfinals of the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA West First Round.
Beckford clocked a time of 13.84 seconds, finishing third in Heat 4 to earn an automatic "big Q" qualifier, advancing by place rather than time in a highly competitive field. Competing against a stacked heat that included top athletes, Beckford held his composure down the stretch, using a strong finish over the final hurdles to lock in one of the top three automatic qualifying positions.
The freshman's advancement marks a significant step on the national stage, as he moves on to Friday's next round with a chance to continue his postseason run and push toward an NCAA Championship berth.
Junior jumper Tyler Rogers capped off an impressive outdoor campaign on the national stage Wednesday, representing Northern Colorado in the men's long jump at the NCAA West First Round.
Rogers recorded a mark of 7.39 meters (24-3), finishing 26th overall in a highly competitive field that featured some of the nation's top jumpers.
While Rogers missed advancing to Friday, the performance marked the conclusion of a strong and consistent outdoor season for Rogers. His appearance at the NCAA First Round underscores both his individual growth and the continued presence of Northern Colorado in national-level competition, as Rogers finishes his outdoor career on a significant stage.
