Bears Earn Sunday Split in El Paso

Northern Colorado Dominates Manhattan Before Falling to UTEP
EL PASO, Texas – Northern Colorado closed out its weekend at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex with a split, rolling past Manhattan 10-1 in five innings before dropping a 6-2 decision to UTEP.
GAME 1 | NORTHERN COLORADO 10, MANHATTAN 1
Pitching: (W) I. DiNapoli (2-1); (L) K. Spring (0-3)
Northern Colorado's offense exploded in the second inning, scoring eight runs to seize control early. Jazzy Longo provided the spark with a two-run homer, while Katie Walling and Abby Gaona each contributed RBI hits in the frame.
The Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Longo's RBI double, putting the game firmly out of reach.
Isabelle DiNapoli delivered a strong outing in the circle, earning the complete-game win by allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. She struck out four and kept Manhattan's offense in check throughout.
Longo finished 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs, while Walling went 2-for-2 with a stolen base, one RBI, and a run scored. Gaona reached base three times, scoring three times and swiping a base.
With the offensive outburst and DiNapoli's steady pitching, Northern Colorado secured its third win of the season in dominant fashion.
GAME 2 | UTEP 6, NORTHERN COLORADO 2
Pitching: (W) T. Felder (3-1); (L) T. Martinez (0-1)
Facing a tough UTEP squad, Northern Colorado found itself in a pitching duel early before the Miners pulled away in the late innings.
UTEP took a 1-0 lead in the second and steadily added on, pushing their advantage to 5-0 by the fifth. The Bears had trouble breaking through against UTEP starter Taja Felder, managing just four hits through six innings.
Northern Colorado finally broke through in the seventh. Gaona reached first on an error by shortstop and came around to score on a fielder's choice by Jaycie Gandert. Krista Francia scored on a sacrifice fly from Gonzales before a flyout ended the game.
Francia paced the Bears' offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Gonzales and Gandert each drove in a run, while Katie Walling and Sabrina Javorsky added a hit.
Tivoli Martinez took the loss, surrendering a run on four hits. Anna Wilming and Grace Algrim combined for five innings of relief, allowing five runs on eight hits.
With the split, Northern Colorado moves to 3-7 on the season.
