Bears Fall to NC State in Raleigh

UNC struggled offensively as Wolfpack secured 11-1 run-rule victory
RALEIGH, N.C. – Northern Colorado fell to NC State, 11-1, in five innings at Dail Softball Stadium. The Bears struggled to find offensive momentum, managing just three hits while the Wolfpack capitalized on big innings to seal the run-rule victory.
NC STATE 11, NORTHERN COLORADO 1
Pitching: (W) R. Wyman (2-1); (L) Isabelle DiNapoli (2-2)
NC State opened the scoring in the first with a solo home run and never looked back. The Wolfpack added a run in each of the next two innings before breaking the game open with a six-run fifth, highlighted by a three-run homer from MaKayla Marbury.
Northern Colorado's lone run came in the fifth when Jaycie Gandert ripped an RBI double to drive in Nya Chacon, who had reached on a hit-by-pitch.
DiNapoli started in the circle for the Bears, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings. Freshman Tivoli Martinez entered in relief but struggled, surrendering three runs without recording an out.
Offensively, Gandert, Katie Walling, and Ella Gonzales each recorded a hit for UNC, while the Bears' defense remained clean with no errors.

The Bears will continue play in Raleigh, N.C., taking on the Fighting Illini at 11 a.m. MST before facing NC State again at 4 p.m. MST. UNC will play Central Michigan on Sunday at 8 a.m. MST.
