Bears rally in the ninth to secure 5-4 victory behind clutch hitting and strong relief pitching

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Northern Colorado (2-2) claimed the series finale against Utah Tech (2-2) with a 5-4 victory on Sunday at Bruce Hurst Field. The Bears capitalized on late-inning opportunities to come out on top in a tightly contested battle.

Northern Colorado clawed its way to a 5-4 win, using a late push to edge Utah Tech in a back-and-forth contest.

Northern Colorado fell behind early as Utah Tech plated two runs in the second inning. The Bears responded with runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the deficit. The Trailblazers struck again in the eighth to regain the lead, but UNC delivered in the clutch, pushing across two runs in the ninth to secure the victory.

Kai Wagner sparked the offense with a solo home run, while Jake King came up clutch with the go-ahead two-run double. Brandon Sanchez also delivered an RBI double and worked a walk to help fuel UNC's scoring efforts.

On the mound, Logan Moser put together a strong relief outing, holding the Trailblazers in check through the middle innings. Jack Tuttle closed things out, securing the win with a steady performance in the final frames.

STAT OF THE DAY: Northern Colorado's patience at the plate paid off, drawing five hit-by-pitches and five walks to keep the pressure on Utah Tech's pitching staff throughout the game.

UP NEXT
The Bears return to the diamond Friday afternoon as they make the drive to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico in a four-game nonconference series with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Santa Ana Star Field.
